Frequently Asked Questions
What is USB-Ctick? Is it a USB flash drive?
No, although the name intentionally resembles one. USB-Ctick is a Hungarian-developed tick removal device designed for home use. The name combines the modern USB-C charging connector and the word “tick.” Its pronunciation intentionally resembles the well-known “USB stick,” making it easy to remember and ask for at pharmacies. However, it does not store data. Instead, it uses UV-curable polymer technology to safely remove ticks.
How is it better than traditional tweezers or tick removal hooks?
The biggest risk with tweezers is accidentally compressing the tick’s abdomen, which can force infected stomach contents into the human bloodstream. USB-Ctick does not touch or compress the tick’s body. The liquid resin surrounds the tick, hardens, and lifts the parasite out while securely enclosing it, minimizing the risk of infectious material entering the skin.
How does it work in practice? (The “tube” technique)
The device is not attached directly to the skin. A special isolation tube is placed around the tick (also moving hair aside), and the liquid resin is dispensed into the tube. The device’s UV light cures the material, allowing the tick to be removed intact, including its head.
Is it painful to use?
No. The process is completely painless. The resin does not pull the skin, and since no tweezers are used, there is no pinching sensation. It can be safely used on children and is not frightening for them.
How long does it take?
The entire process (preparation, UV curing, and removal) takes approximately 1–2 minutes. This may be slightly slower than pulling with tweezers, but it provides a safer solution to help prevent Lyme disease and other infections.
Does it work on very small ticks (nymphs)?
Yes. Because the resin is applied in liquid form, it fills even the smallest gaps. This allows it to securely capture very small ticks that are almost impossible to grasp with tweezers.
